Text message program
Last updated November 1, 2026
The program
True Volunteers is volunteer-management software made by Kensho Communication, doing business as AIEZ.ai. Nonprofits use it to schedule volunteers and to text their own volunteers who agreed to texts. This page describes that text message program.
Every text is sent for one nonprofit to its own volunteers and begins with that nonprofit's name. True Volunteers does not send fundraising or donation requests, newsletters, general announcements, or messages from other companies.
How people agree to texts
Agreeing to texts is optional and is never required to volunteer. It is a separate, unchecked box on the nonprofit's volunteer sign-up form, directly under the mobile phone number field. This is how it looks:
The mobile phone number field and the box sit together on the same form, so it is clear the number is the one that will be texted. The links to the Terms of service and the Privacy policy appear right under the box. Checking it is a separate choice from submitting the form, and a form with the box checked and no number is not accepted.
A volunteer who was added by a coordinator is sent an email with a link to a page that shows the same words and a "Yes, text me" button. No text is sent until they tap it.
The confirmation text
Right after someone agrees, by either method, they get one confirmation text. It is sent once, and no other text is sent before it:
[Nonprofit name] via True Volunteers: You're subscribed to volunteer texts. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out.
What the texts say
Each text starts with the nonprofit's name. The texts are:
- Shift confirmations, reminders before a shift, and shift changes
- Offers of an open spot
- Thank-you texts after a shift
- Milestone and award texts, such as reaching a number of volunteer hours
- Check-in texts to volunteers who have not volunteered recently
- Invitations to events or new volunteer opportunities with that nonprofit
Types 1 and 2 are generated by the app from a person's shifts and offers. Types 3 to 6 are written by the nonprofit's staff (the app can suggest a draft, and a person reads it and presses send) and sent from the app.
